Eric Bathory Delajoux is a visual artist based in Paris. He lived in New York for 2 years in 1987. He was awarded the Fulbright scholarship for educational exchange for the Painting Department at the Parsons School of Design of New York.
Eric was born on March 12th, 1965 in Puteaux. He did first sign his paintings under the pseudonym “Vega”, both for the galactic connotation of it and also after he crossed the United States via Las Vegas in a 1981 Pontiac Firebird, in “drive-away” from New York to San Francisco.
Then he began signing his paintings “Eric Bathory”: he was very much inspired by gothic novels. Bator in hungarian means courage. At the age of 7 Eric saw a screening of the film “Fearless Vampire Killers” by Roman Polanski, screened at the birthday party of a friend. Also in 1985 he drew the logo of his cousin Antoine Caro’s indie radio show “Batman and Robin”.
When he was asked, for the catalog’ interview of a show, what he would like to have ingraved on his grave stone, he said “Ars Longa Vita Brevis” that is “Art Is Long, Life is Short”. In greek : “Ho bios brakhus e de tekhné makré”.
Also his first inspiration, after the green eye in the triangle of Voice, Lux and Rhyme, is a psych’ wall of sound of vinylic 60’s tunes on his turn-table.
